Indigenous Led Child Care
- Nurture positive, authentic relationships that views the child as a capable competent, curious and rich in potential while meeting the individual Emotional, Spiritual, Physical, Mental needs of the child.

- Engage and maintain open communication with all families and support continuous learning between staff, children, families and community partners.
- Document and reflect regularly on the effectiveness of our program and programming.
- Programming rooted of the Seven Grandfather Teachings of the Indigenous culture
- Use of a variety of open-ended play materials that support exploration, inquiry and play with bodies, minds and senses.
- Incorporate indoor and outdoor play, active, rest and quiet time into the day and give consideration to the individual needs of the children receiving child care.
- Regular visits to and from community partners to enhance the children’s learning and experiences.
- Daily Reports and Pictures of the children engaged in play that documents the children’s learning and their experiences can be found at Miigwansag Child Care Centre as well as online within the Lillio (formerly HiMama) parent/teacher communication platform we use.
- Children and staff engaged in positive interactions that will encourage the children to interact and communicate in a positive way that supports their ability to self-regulate.
- Staff or others who interact with the children at Miigwansag Child Care Centre using traditional languages to promote the use of these languages in everyday life.
- Dialogue between staff and children that support problem solving and co-learning throughout the entire day.
- Staff opportunities that allow for continuous professional learning and growth.
- Daily communication and the exchange of information with families and staff.

Support for Children with Special Needs
Children’s Inclusion Support Services (ISS) is a service which aims to provide a range of supports, to assist with the inclusion of all children. The Inclusion Support Services help to ensure that special needs resourcing services are available to children with special needs allowing them to attend and be included in licensed child care programs within the District of Parry Sound. All licensed child care programs in our district have access to enhanced support from Resource Consultants. These qualified professionals provide additional support needed for children and families attending licensed care.
